STORM WATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

October 2007

Pursuant to a permit obtained from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Village has begun a five (5) year program to reduce the impact on our tidal and freshwater wetlands from storm water runoff. A major component of this program is the reduction of pollutants, such as trash, petroleum products, pathogen containing pet wastes, and nutrients and toxics found in lawn care and gardening products from being discarded into or from leaching into the Village's drainage systems.

Toward this end, I would like to encourage all residents to take advantage of the Town of Oyster Bay's programs for the disposal of hazardous wastes and used motor oil, and to participate in the recycling program for newspapers, magazines, plastics, glass and metals. Upon request, the Village will provide you with a recycling container.

As a part of the program, the Village is asking residents to get involved and help. By being careful with waste disposal, we can reduce the impairments of receiving waters and improve the aesthetics of the community.
