and newly elected President, Caroline Z. Bazzini who was the great inspirational force behind the expansion of activities.
The “Welcome to Brookville” signs that outline our Village and the unique post street markers were initiated, designed and placed by the “BPF”. Later they were deeded to the Village and upkeep is now paid for by the Village. This project started in 1997 and was completed in 1999.
Severe winter weather did great damage to the planting beds in several winters from 2000-2005. With the expanded work
Genevieve Johanas and Nancy Copperman joined Joan Huber in the management of the flower and shrub beds. Water was added, trees were pruned, and the beds completely
rejuvenated. In 2004, the “BPF” installed a new fence and cleared many dead trees and underbrush to clear areas for the North Shore Garden Club to make new plantings at the Jane Franke Bird Sanctuary. This was followed by the first
Beautification Day to which all resident were invited to participate in putting in new plantings. Beautification Day 2006 included planting the first xeriscape bed in our locale
which was engineered by Nancy Copperman.
The Beautification Days have been followed by a buffet luncheon at Genevieve and Jay Johanas.
The Foundation enjoys a lively calendar each year with five evening meetings at members’ homes where many friendships are born. Each year there is an annual Outing to a site of common interest. These have been successfully run by Christina Lyon for the past five years with the 2006 outing at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
